Wandelen in Schotland, Geen land mooier dan het wilde noorden van Schotland. De Schotse Highlands, De Inner-Highbrids & Outer-Highbrids, de Orkney Islands, de minderbekende Lowlands, de Grampian Mountains en de grote lijst van munro’s. Deze allemaal samen, en natuurlijk nog vele andere, vullen onze wandelgidsen Schotland volgepropt tot aan de rand met unieke National Trails, vol wonder, unieke natuur- en wandelroutes. De wandelgidsen Schotland zijn een op zich prachtige verzameling van natuur- en bosrijke gebieden waar al sinds bijna duizend jaar paden doorheen lopen, zoals bijvoorbeeld de West Highland Way. Deze laatste doet ons denken aan de lijst van 40 Europese wandekleppers, onze nieuwe pagina over de Europees meest Iconische wandelroutes.
De Schotse gemeenschap bestaat door hun wereldbekende Highlands. Ware het niet voor bergen als de Ben Nevis, en het wereldbekende Loch Ness, dan ware Schotland zonder meer een land op het einde van een land. Uitgevers als Ordnance Survey bieden alle mogelijke wandelkaarten al dan niet geplastificeerd. Kleine waarschuwing misschien, waagt u niet aan de verdere wandelroutes die ver van nergens lopen, zonder begeleiding! Wat in Schotland ook van toepassing is, zijn de National Trails, met routes zoals onder meer Arran Coastal Way, van Brodick vertrekken rond het Arran eiland terug naar Brodick. Great Glen Way met 125 Km, van het befaalde Fort William naar Inverness ondermeer langs het Loch Ness. Zo zijn er een dikke 29 stuks in Schotland, waaronder The John Muir Way, 215 Km van Helensburgh tot Dunbar. Deze laatste behoort zelfs tot de Historische fiets- en wandelroutes.
