Wandelen in Australië
Wandelen in Australië is een unieke ervaring dankzij de diverse landschappen, van regenwouden en bergen tot woestijnen en kustlijnen. Het land heeft enkele van de meest iconische wandelroutes ter wereld, verspreid over verschillende staten en met unieke bezienswaardigheden langs de weg. Een van de beroemdste paden is de Overland Track in Tasmanië. Deze 65 kilometer lange trektocht door het Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park loopt van Cradle Mountain tot Lake St. Clair en biedt uitzichten op ruige bergen, alpenweiden, watervallen en uitgestrekte bossen. Wandelaars kunnen onderweg wilde dieren tegenkomen, zoals wombats en Tasmaanse duivels. Deze trektocht duurt meestal zes dagen en wordt vooral aanbevolen voor ervaren wandelaars. Oceanië in zijn geheel heeft zo veel van die routes, buiten wat er hier word omschreven natuurlijk. In Queensland ligt de Thorsborne Trail op Hinchinbrook Island. Deze 32 kilometer lange route, die in vier dagen kan worden afgelegd, biedt een tropische ervaring met mangroven, witte zandstranden en kristalheldere rivieren. De route is beroemd om zijn biodiversiteit, met kans om zeldzame vogels, krokodillen en zeeschildpadden te spotten. Victoria biedt de Great Ocean Walk, een kustroute van 100 kilometer langs de zuidelijke kust van Australië. Deze route loopt van Apollo Bay naar de Twelve Apostles en kan in een week worden bewandeld. Onderweg vinden wandelaars adembenemende uitzichten op de oceaan, kliffen en kalkstenen rotsformaties. De Great Ocean Walk is perfect voor liefhebbers van dramatische kustlandschappen en inheemse flora en fauna.
