LF-routes langeafstand routes Vlaanderen In het eerste opzicht bedoeld men voor recreatieve meerdaagse tochten of fietsvakanties. Dit concept heeft internationaal al verschillende benamingen ontwikkelt zoals in Duitsland worden ze “Fernradweg” of Radfernweg” genoemd. In Nederland en voor de Vlaamse overheid betekent LF Landelijke Fietsroute; voor de Vlaamse NGO Grote Routepaden staat LF voor Lange afstand Fietsroute. De LF-routes zijn sinds 2007 in twee richtingen bewegwijzerd.
Ter onderscheiding wordt de ene richting met een A aangeduid en de andere richting met een B. Er zijn zo’n dikke 50 routes beschikbaar in Nederland en Vlaanderen, zie onderaan voor de lijst. Sommigen maken zelfs deel uit van het Europese netwerk “Eurovélo” van internationale bewegwijzerde fietsroutes. Zo maak de LF1 en de LF10 deel uit van de Northsea cycle route. Vlaanderen als geen ander is een echte geliefkoosde plaats om te fietsen, denk maar aan de Fietsroute knooppunten Vlaanderen, of een verschil zoekt tussen Fietsen in West-Vlaanderen & Fietsen in Oost-Vlaanderen.

Fietsrouteknooppunten Vlaanderen
Fietsrouteknooppunten Vlaanderen, velen weten er te weinig van, om grote tochten tegemoet te gaan, velen hebben de weg naar de fiets als recreatie nog steeds niet gevonden, maar de sector bloeit hoe langer hoe meer. Vandaag de dag zijn auto’s de koe van de staat. Fietsen als alternatief om naar het werk te rijden zit ook in de lift, zelf de elektrische fiets komt ongeloofelijk op. Velen combineren een fietstocht van meerdere dagen met een verblijfplaats voor de nacht, zoals B&B' of zelf Kamperen is nu ook in volle opmars.
Vlaanderen in tegenstelling tot Fietsen in Nederland, is bezig aan een opmars wat fietsinteresse betreft. Hoe langer hoe meer uitgevers zich op het Vlaamse land storten, en er degelijk en goed uitgekiemde gidsen en kaarten voor uitbrengen. Vlaanderen is dan ook geen foute fietslocatie, want we beschikken over veel natuurschoon, die met de fiets makkelijk doorkruisbaar is, wat dan weer een stuk moeilijker ligt voor de auto. Vlaanderen, en zeker Fietsen in Oost-Vlaanderen die een waaier aan fietsroutes biedt.
Zo heb je de bekende FALK fietskaarten die de knooppunten fietsen vlaanderen aanduiden van alle plaatsen in Vlaanderen. De toerismediensten bieden ook hun kleine fietsroutes aan, elk binnen hun eigen mogelijkheden, in dit geval spreekt men over Toerisme Vlaanderen, herkenbaar aan de rode kaartjes.
